Historical Note Tom Oliver Caldwell was born May 16, 1926, in Birmingham, Alabama.  He attended the public schools in Jefferson County and graduated from Ensley High School.  In 1943 he entered the University of Alabama, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1946.  He entered the Medical College of Alabama in the fall of 1946 as a member of the freshman class of the newly re-established four-year medical school.  On June 3, 1949, Caldwell graduated from the Medical College of Alabama in exercises held at the Southside Baptist Church.  Following graduation, he interned at the Charity Hospital in New Orleans from 1949 to 1950.  He undertook a pediatric residency at Lloyd Noland Hospital from 1952-1953 and followed with another at the Children’s Hospital from 1953-1954.  In July 1955 he entered into practice with Dr. Roddie L. Stewart as his junior partner.   Caldwell retired from active practice in January 1996.  Tom O. Caldwell, his oldest daughter Cathryn Lynn Caldwell, and two others were killed in a traffic accident near Sylva, North Carolina, on October 20, 2008.
Scope and Contents Includes correspondence, partnership agreements, faculty appointments, research notes, and genealogical records.
