Two new read-and-publish agreements made between UAB Libraries and journal publishers American Chemical Society and Taylor and Francis will enable UAB authors to have their article processing fees (APCs) waived when publishing in select open access journals — which could mean thousands of dollars in savings.
Ten previously established read-and-publish agreements between top journal publishers and UAB Libraries — four of which were added in 2025 alone — have saved UAB authors more than $2.1 million since 2021.
“We are committed to making open access publishing accessible to UAB authors, and these two new agreements are great examples of that,” said Jeff Graveline, J.D., associate dean for Research and Scholarly Communication and director of the Office of Scholarly Communication, which spearheads UAB Libraries’ open access efforts. “Publishing work by UAB authors open access means the scholarship and research done here on campus can make a difference on a global scale.”
To qualify, authors must currently be affiliated with UAB, and articles must have been accepted on or after Jan. 1, 2026. See additional specific qualifications for American Chemical Society and Taylor and Francis online, and learn more about open access publishing support through UAB Libraries in this research guide.
