Course reserves are course-required materials (textbooks, books, DVDs, etc.) that are held in the for you to use as an alternative to purchasing your course-required texts yourself. The materials are “reserved” for students of their designated course, enabling equal access to them throughout the semester. Using books on reserve can save you money.
Materials available include items placed on reserve for specific classes by instructors and some textbooks purchased by the library through donated funds. A guide to materials available on course reserve for the current semester can be found at guides.library.uab.edu/reserves. This guide is updated throughout the semester to reflect purchases and arrivals, and many of the following semester’s course reserves will be available to view in the month prior to the new semester.
Reserve materials are selected by instructors and typically have shorter loan periods (usually from 2 hours to a full day; loan periods are set by the instructor).
Materials placed on course reserve will be listed as such in the library catalog and will be unavailable to request for pickup for as long as they are on reserve. This means that you must come to the Sterne Library HUB Desk to request the book in-person for the shortened loan period.
Reserve materials are available at the Sterne HUB and may be checked out with a valid ONE Card. Students will be informed of the due date and time at checkout.
If you would like to add a required course material to course reserves or do not see your course material listed on the Textbooks for UAB Classes Guide, please submit your material for consideration via the following form: uab.libwizard.com/f/CourseMaterialsRequest
