For review teams interested in involving a UAB librarian as a team member on a systematic review or other evidence synthesis paper, our collaboration service model is appropriate. In the collaboration service model, a UAB librarian will serve on the review team and create and execute the searches in the appropriate databases and contribute to the methods section by writing and describing the search processes for the review. Once a search is completed, a librarian will write the literature search methodology section for the submitted manuscript, maintain records of search results, and follow up with alerts and updates as needed.
The UAB Librarians will provide the following services (in addition to the educational services offered at the consultation level):
- Creating and conducting the literature searches
- Documenting the search process
- Managing the search results which entails running searches in all databases and delivering results in Covidence or another citation software
- Writing the methodology section of the review according to PRISMA reporting standards
- Running search updates when the initial search exceeds one year.
- Reviewing and editing the manuscript before submission to the target journal
Librarians will be listed as co-authors for collaboration services.
If you'd like to request a librarian to assist with the expert searches, please fill out our Expert/Systematic Review Search Request Form. A UAB Librarian will contact you in 1-2 business days to set up an appointment. For more information on the systematic review process, tools, and resources, please see our systematic review research guide, here.
